The Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center
Established in 1980, the Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center is accredited by the International Association of Jewish Libraries and is a hub for Holocaust education activities and programs in Nevada.
The Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center serves the community and multiple educational institutions, highlighting Holocaust awareness and offering a variety of learning opportunities. The center serves the Nevada Governor’s Advisory Council on Education Relating to the Holocaust by providing print, nonprint, and electronic resources to the public, and developing programs for the education of issues relating to the Holocaust, tolerance, and diversity.
The materials in the collection are available to the general public and may be borrowed for up to three weeks. The center also provides teacher-training workshops on various themes of the Holocaust, operating in conjunction with other entities such as the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada, Clark County School District, Washoe County School District, Elko County Library Holocaust Resource Center Collection, ADL’s “No Place for Hate,” the Nevada State Department of Education, and other local and national Holocaust education organizations.
The Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Media Center and Library is housed at Temple Beth Sholom in Las Vegas, and its sister collection, The Shia Szrut Holocaust Studies Memorial Collections, is located in the Northwest Reno Library in Washoe County Library and the Holocaust Collection of Elko is located in the Elko County Library.

History
The Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center was established in 1980 by an endowment from the Lloyd and Edythe Katz family in memory of Edythe’s parents, Gertrude and Hyman Sperling. Its purpose was to acquire books and materials relating to the Holocaust. Then, with the generous donations from Lillian and Henry Kronberg and Judy and Ron Mack, the media center was added to the collection a few years later.
Over the last few years, the center has evolved into a resource and lending facility for materials relating to the Holocaust and is now considered a hub for Holocaust education activities and programs in Nevada. The center is located at Temple Beth Sholom and is free and open to the public.
The Sperling Kronberg Mack Holocaust Resource Center operates in conjunction with other entities such as the Governor’s Advisory Council on Education Relating to the Holocaust (a state of Nevada Holocaust education agency under the auspices of the governor’s office), the Clark County School District, the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada, the Washoe County School District, the Nevada State Department of Education, ADL’s “No Place for Hate” and other local and national Holocaust education organizations.
The Elko County Library also houses a Holocaust resource center collection. Lastly, The Northwest Reno Library houses a sister Holocaust collection, established by a grant from the Ron and Judy Mack Education Foundation in memory of Judy’s father, Shia Szrut, a Holocaust victim.
